Oscar is a Special-Needs Beagle, approximately 7 years old.  He was rescued from the streets where he was dumped – very sick and starving.  After numerous trips to the vet, he was diagnosed with megaesophagus – an ailment that prevents food from reaching the stomach and causes it to be regurgitated.  He had very invasive, but successful surgery to remove the stricture; however, it was there since he was a baby resulting in some permanent damage to the esophagus.  A minor adjustment in his food preparation allows him to eat normally.  We spend about 15 minutes every two weeks grinding up his dry food into a powder and into an air-tight bowl.  We just scoop out what we need each feeding and mix it with water to form a milkshake consistency.  We put the bowl on the floor and he is able to eat just like any other dog.  Oscar has recovered beautifully is able to live a normal and active life.  He is back up to his normal weight and is maintaining it very nicely.

Oscar gets along very well with other dogs, but his instincts tell him that cats are prey to be chased and caught.  He loves to rough-house outside with his canine companions and then come inside to plant himself on a nice lap, so he can snuggle and be petted and loved.  Oscar loves children also. He really enjoys playing with toys, and he goes around the house picking up all of the toys and depositing them in a pile.  He is quite the little “helper!”  Oscar has a wonderful personality and has the eyes of an old soul. He is very playful and has decided that anything in the house that is not “nailed down” is his and will probably be found in “his” pile of toys!
