Hi, my name is Gertrude or Gertie. I am a very special girl, I am begging you to give me a chance at a better life. I am small, cute, and my long fur is the softest of any kitty I've met during my time as a stray. I have gone through some VERY tough times but despite my struggles I have a great attitude and affectionate, loving personality. I am sweet and confident. I love being around people but am not confident around dogs. They scare me because there were big ones in the wild and I wanted to protect my babies. I came from an apartment complex where the people were very nice and fed me, but through no fault of their own they could not let me inside due to something called "The Lease." And man, was it cold outside. The people were great but the circumstances were not. Most of my babies were run over by cars and I will never forget how scared I was. Now I am ready to move forward and live in a better place where I am safe. I was a very good mother to my one surviving kitten. I did the best I could and would like a lovely person to take care of me now that I am not going to have any more children.

Update 02/21/14:  Wow! A lot has happened since I got to Proverbs. They are really taking good care of me. I have a great foster Mom who noticed that my eyes just didn't look right. My third eyelids protrude far up over my eyes. They took me to the doctor (not my favorite place to go, but it wasn't that bad) and found out I have Idiopathic Horner's Syndrome. It's pretty rare. It doesn't bother me a bit...I still love to play and cuddle.

I also have Herpes virus which sometimes makes my eyes watery. I am on medicine and get special lysine treats which should help with that. When I am adopted, my new folks will have to keep me on the lysine which isn't a big deal; it is a gel and my Mom just puts a blob of it on my nose and I eat it right up! I do need to be an only cat because even though it doesn't really bother me, another cat could catch it from me.

I know this all sounds very complicated. The folks at Proverbs tell me not to worry though, because they will work with my adopter to help them understand it all and make sure I get the care I need.
