Ralphie is approximately 8 mths old; he was born in April 2019. He survived Parvo and was adopted very young but recently returned to us to find a better fit for him. The way Ralphie communicates can be confusing and sometimes sends mixed messages. Ralphie tends to use his big dog voice (growl) inappropriately and sometimes as a tactic for getting his way. His foster mom has nicknamed him Chewy (for Chewbacca) because he uses his big dog voice even when he is relaxing and while getting loved on. He usually doesn’t mean it to be what a growl is usually intended to mean. He, however, will also use his big dog voice to avoid things he does not like or want to do, like crating or bathing. These are the times he means it the usual way. Somewhere in his short life, he learned this was a means for getting and keeping things his way. For these reasons, we feel Ralphie should go into home with an experienced owner without small children. Ralphie is a fun dog and a great size (less than 20lbs). He is quick to learn, and please his people. He loves to cuddle at night and go for walks. He is housebroken and great (but eager) on a leash. He know simple commands such as sit, shake, and no. Ralphie has adapted well to a home with other dogs and cats. He is playful and curious but respectful. He accepts new people quickly and is very friendly with assurances from his owner. His energy level is moderate. He has several energetic outbursts for play throughout the day so would be happiest with an active person/family. He will need someone able to provide healthy outlets for his energy through either play or exercise daily. Ralphie does not like to be crated, however, as an alternative; he does not mind confinement in a small room by means of a baby gate. He is not destructive and only chews on his toys. He loves to run, fetch and throw things in the air. He likes to snatch small items of clothing (socks mostly) and play keep away. Ralphie is a sweet and loving dog but still a puppy. He is learning and needs a confident, loving person to help him continue to develop with positive reinforcement and loving guidance. One day soon, he’ll be someone’s best dog ever!
