Gemma has probably suffered mistreatment in the past as she is fearful in new situationsand with new people. The best home for Gemma would be a calm, quiethousehold with a patient adopter who will understand that she needs time toadjust to new surroundings. Once she feels safe and familiar with someone, sheis affectionate and likes attention. Gemma would do best in a household with nochildren or older, gentle children only. Gemma likes to have a dog buddy to playwith and would do best in a home with another sweet-tempered dog who canhelp her learn the ropes.Gemma is most fearful when she is outside or moving to a new space. For thisreason, she needs a securely fenced yard (6 ft. fence). At present she is a flightrisk when walked outside of the fence. She will walk on a leash but panics if shehears a loud or unfamiliar noise and tries to escape her leash and flee. Ifsomething outside scares her she may regress for a day or two and need to becoaxed back into the yard with treats. She is very treat- motivated.Gemma is mostly house broken but still needs some work in this area. She is stillunderweight and has a foot injury which is not completely healed. She wears aboot with a sock and a small non-stick pad when she is in the yard to protect herfoot, but should only wear it for short periods of time.This special girl needs a special adopter who will be willing to work with her andgive her the time she needs to become comfortable.
